What is a Sri Lanka eTA and who needs it ?

All traveller planning a visit, a short business trip or to transit through, need to apply and obtain an ETA prior to arrival in Sri Lanka. It is best to get all our travel documents prepared in advance of your date of departure to avoid any unforeseen delays.

An eTA is an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) it is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Sri Lanka by air or boat/vessel. Usually granted for a short stay.

With the exception of citizens from Singapore, the Republic of Maldives, and the Republic of Seychelles, all travelers will require a Sri Lanka eTA to enter. Fortunately, the process for acquiring one is relatively straightforward and can be done online.

In addition to an ETA, visitors to Sri Lanka need to make sure they have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival, a confirmed return ticket and sufficient funds to meet their expenses during the stay.
